Pickin’ For Slim
Story Courtesy of The Macleay Argus 14th April, 2010
The crowd at the Country Rocks the Gaol concert on Easter Monday were treated to a surprise bonus when guitar phenomenon Joe Robinson got up on stage with younger brother Simon.
Simon was on the bill as lead guitarist with the River City Rumblers, the hotly tipped next big band from the Macleay and the Australia’s got Talent winner thought he’d pick a few strings with his kid brother while the other two Rumblers, Layla and John Micallef, got in the groove too.
The audience loved it – along with the rest of the fundraiser for the Slim Dusty Foundation, which also featured Golden Guitar winner Amos Morris, Byron Bay singer Lou Bradley, Central Coast act The Chicken Train Skiffler’s, and Richie Gudgeon.
Kathryn Yarnold, of the Slim Dusty Foundation, said it had been a terrific afternoon.
“We’d like to thank the organiser, Bob McWilliam, and the Rotary Club of South West Rocks and the National Parks and Wildlife Service for supporting the Event” Ms Yarnold said.
All proceeds from the Trial Bay Gaol gig will be donated to the foundation, set up to build a museum in South Kempsey to commemorate country music legend Slim Dusty. The museum is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
