Joy McKean OAM 2015
Our volunteers are the salt of the earth…..Where would we be without them?”
Joy McKean OAM 2015
Since opening the doors of the Slim Dusty Centre, we have heard some wonderful stories from dedicated Slim Dusty fans who have visited from many parts of Australia, and it is an exciting experience to be part of this memorable project that relates so many important chapters in Australia’s musical history.
Our volunteers are such a great asset to the centre, and the day to day administration by the staff is strongly supported by our volunteers. There is always the need for us to engage more of these amazing people and with this is mind we would love to meet some of our local residents in particular who are able to give freely of their valuable time. Volunteers can chose how often they wish to attend and we give the assurance that they are very much appreciated.
There are many ways that volunteers can assist and they can choose the area which appeals to them. We always need to have a few people on stand-by, as so many of our regulars love to engage in their favourite pastime of exploring our wonderful country, Australia. One of the areas which is most enjoyable is the museum where we house so much of Slim’s memorabilia and as a museum attendant, the volunteers can meet and greet the many visitors some of whom have seen Slim’s contribution to our musical history unfold.
Volunteers can also choose to work in the General Store where our merchandise is sold or at the front desk where we do the ticketing and inform our visitors just what is in store for them as they move around the centre. From time to time we will have travelling exhibitions in the Nulla Nulla Room and attendants will be required to engage our visitors in the experience that will be long remembered after their visit.
We look forward to meeting many more new volunteers and the first step is to call the Slim Dusty Centre on (02) 65626533 and we would be happy to discuss what might be your new pathway in life!
