Do you have some spare time on your hands? Can you help the Slim Dusty Centre

Do you have some spare time on your hands? Would you like to do something different? The Slim Dusty Centre would love to hear from you if you are community minded and would like to be a volunteer and be part of our dedicated team.

Volunteers are such a great asset to the centre, and the day to day administration and operation of the Centre and Museum is strongly supported by our volunteers. There is always the need for us to engage more of these amazing people and with this in mind we would welcome the opportunity to meet some of our local residents in particular who are able to give freely of their valuable time. Volunteers can choose how often they wish to attend and we give the assurance that they are very much appreciated.

There are many ways that volunteers can assist. You might like to volunteer in the museum where we house so much of Slim’s memorabilia and as a museum attendant, you can meet and greet the many visitors who travel from all over Australia as well as many other countries, to see our centre.

Volunteers can also choose to work in the General Store where our merchandise is sold or at the front desk where we do the ticketing and inform our visitors just what is in store for them as they move around the centre. From time to time we will have travelling exhibitions in the Nulla Nulla Room, and attendants will be required to engage our visitors in the experience that will be long remembered after their visit.

Dusty’s Dinner Camp Café has become a meeting place for mates to catch up over a cuppa and we would welcome anyone who may like to volunteer in this busy little cafe. As our commercial kitchen also caters for events and concerts, you may like to be involved in some of our many functions.

The presentation of our grounds is such an important feature that is looked after by our volunteers and we always need help with mowing, whipper snipping and some general cleaning and handyman tasks.

From time to time our curator requires assistance from volunteers who have the following skills – competent computer skills including data entry; an eye for detail and meticulous recording of information; a keen interest in collection objects and research and a desire to learn and the ability to follow curatorial/collection procedures

Our volunteers are our greatest resource; and not just for what they give in time and effort to the centre, but for what they bring to the centre, with their knowledge and expertise. The centre is a community resource and a multipurpose facility and we are looking for dedicated volunteers with a range of skills and interests to become involved, and proudly join the Slim Dusty Centre Team.
